The American Country Awards 2010 winners made history last night. That is because the American Country Awards 2010 winners were the first in the show’s history. There are already a lot of music award shows, with a few of them taking place weeks ago. But there seems to always be room for one more, and FOX debuted its own last night. Therefore, the winners of the American Country Awards added to their extensive collection, with Carrie Underwood leading the way.
Underwood and Lady Antebellum have been cleaning up major awards for some time now. For Underwood, she had six nominations going in, while the likes of Lady Antebellum, Brad Paisley and Miranda Lambert had momentum from their last victories.
Yet the American Country Awards 2010 winners were looking up at Underwood all night. She was triumphant in every category, including Female Music Video of the Year, Touring Headline Package of the Year, Female Single of the Year, Album of the Year, and Female Artist of the Year.
Therefore, when it came time for the night’s big prize, Artist of the Year, the results were almost preordained. Despite competition like Lady Antebellum, Lambert, Taylor Swift and the Zac Brown Band, Underwood completed a 6-for-6 record.
When Underwood wasn’t prevailing, the other winners were being led by Lady Antebellum. The group took home four prizes of their own, including Duo or Group Artist of the Year, Single of the Year, Duo or Group Single of the Year, and Duo or Group Music Video of the Year.
Easton Corbin broke out with three victories, winning all of the Breakthrough Artist trophies. Meanwhile, Blake Shelton and host Trace Adkins took home two honors for “Hillbilly Bone.” And, in between Underwood and Lady Antebellum’s dominance, Brad Paisley got a big prize as Male Artist of the Year.
Fans chose the winners, which put Underwood and Lady Antebellum at an advantage. Although Miranda Lambert was the big winner at the CMAs last month, Underwood got the big victories at the Academy of Country Music Awards in April. This new show might not have been a tiebreaker, but it validated Underwood’s place on the country throne.
While FOX hopes they have a new major awards show on their hands, the American Country Awards winners can complete their trophy collection for 2010 before starting a fresh one in 2011.
