Alternate Ways to Use Cooking Utensils

by tree pony

Cooking utensils are a must for anyone that prepares meals, and certain tools have specific purposes, but those purposes are not exclusive. Kitchen gadgets and tools can be used in many unconventional ways to make food preparation and presentation much easier. Try these alternate ways to use cooking utensils, and save time with a few simple shortcuts.

Use a Pizza Cutter for Fast Cutting

Using a knife to cut anything seems to take forever, especially when hungry kids are waiting for their meal. Try using alternate utensils to do the job faster. Instead of using a knife to cut pancakes, spaghetti, waffles and anything else that requires cutting, try a pizza cutter. This is one of the best alternate ways to use cooking utensils and kitchen gadgets because it saves time. The food will be cut very quickly, and you will not have to fight with a fork and knife for several minutes when trying to cut up plates of food for small children.

Use Shears Instead of Knives for Safer Cutting

When kids are old enough to begin helping in the kitchen but are too young to use knives, allow them to help cut up semi-soft foods with alternate tools. Try kitchen shears instead. These handy kitchen utensils are a great alternate to knives, and they can be used to cut up everything from pizza to boneless chicken. Keep at least two pairs on hand, and use them instead of knives whenever possible, especially when cooking with children. Alternate utensils can help make food preparation safer.

Crumble Ground Beef with a Sturdy Plastic Whisk

A plastic whisk is typically used to scramble eggs, blend sauces and whip thin liquids, but this is another cooking utensil that has an alternate use. Instead of using a two-pronged plastic fork or the edge of a spatula to crumble ground meat as it browns, try other utensils. Use a sturdy plastic whisk. It works very well to separate a mass of ground meat, and it does the job a lot faster than any other cooking utensils that were meant to breakup meat.

Crush Cooked Egg Yolks with a Pastry Blender

Deviled eggs are scrumptious, but smashing the yolks and blending in mayo and other ingredients can take quite a while, especially when preparing dozens at once. Use an alternate way to crush and blend the yolks with other kitchen utensils. Use a pastry blender instead of a dinner fork. This alternate way to use an ordinary pastry blender will make the job much faster and easier.

Use an Egg Slicing Tool to Quickly and Evenly Slice Mushrooms

Cutting up whole mushrooms can be very time-consuming, and the pieces are rarely uniform in width. Use an alternate method with one of the least popular kitchen utensils. Pull the egg slicing gadget from the back of the drawer, and use it to make fast work of fresh mushrooms. They will be sliced quickly and uniformly, and this seldom-used gadget will have a completely new use that goes far beyond hard-boiled eggs.
