Kandi Kid Synopsis
Kandi Kids (sometimes labeled with alternative spellings such as “Candee Kid” or “Kandy Kid”) are a group within the rave culture who wear kandi (pony beads), typically in the form of bracelets, which they exchange with new friends they meet at raves and dance parties.
What is “Kandi?”
You’re probably already acquainted with kandi; this is another name for the pony beads you probably played with as a child. However, given the nature and interests of kandi kids, the kandi they play with is probably more interesting than what you were given when you were younger. Kandi beads are frequently black light or glow-in-the-dark because they are administered at raves, and due to the fact they are manufactured for young adults, may contain more complicated designs. Though most kandi kids wear their kandi on elastics around their wrists, some make kandi rings, cuffs (large collections of bracelets stitched together), necklaces or anklets.
Kandi Kid Clothing and Accessories
Though the only requirement for a Kandi Kid is that they done kandi bracelets which they trade with friends, they typically dress in an interesting fashion. Kandi kids generally adore bright, neon colors or day-glo, wearing corresponding fabrics, make-up, and sometimes dying their hair or using brightly colored hair extensions and ornaments. Kandi kids frequently wear “cute” clothing, or tight shirts with childish figures such as Hello Kitty or Snoopy, and matching accessories, such as large plastic watches, stickers, hats, and so on. Some Kandi kids will opt to wear fuzzy leg warmers known as “flur fluffies” or sometimes just “fluffies”. These accessories are similar to regular leg warmers but, in Kandi kid fashion, are brightly colored and extremely fuzzy, as if made from multicolored fur.
Kandi Kid Culture
Kandi kids believe in “PLUR” (Peace, Love, Unity, and Respect) and are therefore concerned with humanitarian issues and believe in loving others as one loves themselves. When making friends, Kandi kids may exchange kandi beaded bracelets with one another in a Kandi kid handshake (both kandi kids will exchange bracelets after making a peace sign, a heart with each person’s hand acting as half, pressing their palms together, and finally moving the bracelets over their hands to the other person) and then embrace. For this reason, you may see many kandi kids with a large number of kandi bracelets on their arms; they are either preparing to make many friends at a rave or have acquired the bracelets after having already made friends. Sometimes kandi kids will also pass out stickers in place of or in addition to kandi bracelets.
Kandi Kid Music
Because kandi kids frequent raves, the common denominator throughout their musical interests is rave music. While this is a broad category, rave music includes but is not limited to trance. Happy hardcore is rather popular and bands such as Deadmau5 have gained significant notoriety.
