Researchers are supposed to have discovered a microbe that can live in an environment previously thought too poisonous for any life form to survive. The bacterium was found at the bottom of Mono Lake in California’s Yosemite National Park, which is rich in arsenic – usually poisonous to life. Somehow the creature uses the arsenic as a way of surviving and this ability raises the prospect that similar life could exist on other planets, which do not have benevolent atmosphere.
If these organisms use arsenic in their metabolism, it demonstrates that there are other forms of life to those we knew of. They are aliens, but aliens that share the same home as us. There is a growing belief that alien life is actually abundant in our universe, but in a form that is not recognizable as life. These findings & resultant conclusions are exciting new vistas in our understanding of life itself and about the possibilities of finding life similar or different to us across the universe.
Our understanding of life and universe is very basic as the more we discover, the less we are able to connect the dots of creation. Scientific conclusions sometimes vary from religious beliefs, leading some to increasingly question age-old beliefs, if they run counter to scientific discoveries as they unravel. Sometimes, even those discoveries are disproved over time. It is an endless pursuit, but the Creator’s real intention will be hard to fathom for ordinary mortals!
Most have religious beliefs and also some of our own from our fertile imagination! That process also should emanate from creation itself, so there is some truth and basics for such imaginations! As for myself, I always believed that life, in some form, exist everywhere, including in our red-hot sun, which itself is a living, energy spewing creation that sustains us all! It produces energy through nuclear fusion and has done so for billions of years! Such is the power of creation that everything works like clock-work right through, creating and even destroying life, all in perpetual motion. Are we not having such a smooth ride, mostly at least? Some supreme power is directing the whole process, bringing in new life and taking them back; nothing is wasted but recycled!
We have no clue where we were before our birth and where we will end up, if at all! Even diehard believers will have some doubts! There should be some accountability for our deeds here, and justice meted out at some point in time! To live by our conscience will lighten our load a great deal; as we know easily, what is right from wrong. I also practice – do unto others as you would have them do unto you. We can do our bit to bring breathe of fresh air and spread it around to last a while!
To find life everywhere, including the most inhospitable of places, makes us realize the wizardry of creation. Even the space between planets could be full of life, in the sun and beyond. Even the universe could be multi verse, according to some. The possibilities are endless. Some even believe, aliens already exist among us in human forms! They have already infiltrated our space and we have made them feel comfortable to live amongst us!
We are sure to find new exciting discoveries as we scan around with better equipments and scientific knowledge. The life, as we know, will never be the same again. Some scientists, among them Stephen Hawking, warn us to be circumspect in reaching out to look for alien life. Better to lie low as, even if others are few hundred years ahead in evolution, we could end up as easy meat! But that maybe because we are thinking along on our way of life; finding disunity though made from the same matter. We are more homogenous than we care to admit. Let the scientific pursuits go on relentlessly, but nothing beats finding unity in diversity. When real aliens make their presence felt in our midst, let us show maturity beyond the present and then embark on a joint journey of discovery and coexistence with them. We might go places, which we never knew existed or even contemplated. Leave it to the creator to open such possibilities at the opportune time, when we are ready to take such momentous next steps in our endless journey!
