Termination of a pregnancy by the removal a fetus from the uterus that results to the death of the unborn child is known as to abortion. Abortion occurs spontaneously or it can be induced. Abortion is done by a licensed physician in countries where it is legalized. Abortion is done using medicinal drugs or a minor surgery. Abortion has several complications such as; abdominal bleeding, vomiting, nausea, bleeding among other symptoms. In some other cases abortion may lead to fatality. Spontaneous abortion is not an issue for many people since it is inevitable; however, elective abortion has sparked a big debate. The Catholic Church is very vocal in condemning elective abortion. Like the catholic church, I am against abortion.
Every time a woman conceives it means that a new individual will be expected at the end of nine months. It is therefore very true to state that life begins at conception. Some people argue that before three months a pregnancy is just a group of cell that has no form and cannot be equivalent to a baby. What they fail to realize is that without that ‘blast’ of cells then life cannot be created. Termination of a pregnancy is akin to murder in first degree because the mother of the child makes a decision to end life. Murder is abhorred by the law in all senses and therefore legalization of abortion is an example of the double standards employed by any country that allows abortion. Abortion is an insult to humanity and a direct defiance of the sanctity that is embodied by human life (Anderson, 2009). The health risks posed by abortion are immense though they vary from woman to woman. Research shows that a woman who has had abortion increases the risk of ectopic pregnancy and cancer as well. When a woman becomes pregnant various tissues in the divide rapidly and when a pregnancy is terminated it interferes with the process, if the same woman incurs other abortions it may signal the body to keep multiplying the cells even after the abortion. The uncontrollable multiplication of cell is what causes cancer.
Abortion also increases the chances of miscarriages this is very detrimental to a woman who expects to carry a pregnancy to full term. A woman who has had abortion also has a high chance of getting pelvic inflammatory disease.
Everyone has the right and freedom to do what they want with their body; however abortion is the kind of freedom that should be limited. Those who defend abortion say that if the right of freedom is disrupted it will only lead to other restricting laws such as forcing women to undergo sterilization or forcing them to use contraceptives( Waggoner, 2009). Another school of thought is that abortion should only be allowed under special circumstances such as incestuous pregnancies or rape victims who end up pregnant. They further argue that after a woman undergoes these experiences of rape, she is too afraid to speak and therefore preventive measures are not employed. In my opinion regardless of how a child was conceived it should be safeguarded by the laws of the land. Abortion has no reasonable foundation; if it were made illegal all over the world many precious lives will be saved. No child should be deprived the gift of life that we are enjoying.
