Lady Gaga -In the year 2010, Lady Gaga went far beyond what any other artist pursued in terms of music and visual artistry. As a singer she continues to push the envelope when it comes to the content of her music videos as well as her fashion choices. It’s this eccentricity that has become a selling point for the 24-year-old, who was named a 2010 pop music icon by TIME. The magazine noted that last year Lady Gaga “hit the 5 million mark in digital singles sales, was the first celebrity to get more than 10 million fans on Facebook, and her videos have been watched online more than 1 billion times” .
Additionally, Gaga was named the top winner of the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards where she took home a total of 8 moonmen. Her song “Telephone” won Best Collaboration while the hit “Bad Romance” won 7 separate awards including the highly-coveted trophy for Video of the Year.
Demi Lovato – The fresh faced Disney star suddenly took on the image of a bad girl after she bailed out of the Jonas Brothers Tour and decided to enter treatment for what her rep called “personal issues”. At the center of the scandal were reports Demi had punched a dancer whom she believed had snitched on her for partying the night before. The incident was confirmed, as were Demi’s reasons for being at the treatment center. Fans of the “Sonny with a Chance” star were shocked to learn the 18-year-old was being treated for cutting and an eating disorder.
Miley Cyrus – As she grows up, the former “Hannah Montana” star is embracing her sexier image, though it’s leaving parents disappointed. Last year the singer-actress was caught in several “oops!” moments, including one in May of 2010 that involved her grinding on her “Last Song” director Adam Shankman. Recorded in the summer of 2009, the video clip was allegedly shot at a wrap party for the film. At the time, Miley was only 16 and Shankman, 44. Later in 2010, Miley would make this event appear insignificant with the emergence of a new scandal. In December of last year she appeared front and center in a new video clip that shows her smoking out of a bong. Following her inhale, 18-year-old Miley mumbles into the camera and laughs uncontrollably. Following the incident, Cyrus’ camp asserted that the substance in question was Salvia and not marijuana. Still, the effect of the video was evident. Her father Billy Ray tweeted, “Im so sad” while Miley herself would later tell Marie Claire that the bong-smoking video clip was the result of a “bad decision”.
Jesse James – The former husband of Sandra Bullock became “the most hated man in the U.S.A.” after confessing to cheating on the Oscar-winning actress many times over. The whole scandal was ignited by a tattoo model coming forward with raunchy details of her alleged trysts with Jesse James. Michelle “Bombshell” McGee reportedly told Star that she carried on an 11-month affair with the West Coast Choppers CEO. Following the news, Sandra Bullock immediately moved out of the home she shared with James, and more women similar to McGee proceeded to come out of the woodwork. Jesse James eventually confessed to “messing up a really good thing”, and has since moved on with Kat Von D. The two got engaged in early 2011.
Charlie Sheen – Police were called to the NYC Plaza Hotel just after 2 a.m. on October 26th, 2010 where they found a highly intoxicated and naked Charlie Sheen amid a trashed hotel suite, the New York Post reported. The “Two and a Half Men” actor was reportedly given the option of being arrested or going to the hospital for a psychological evaluation, and he chose the latter. The NY Post story says that Hotel security called 911 after finding tables and chairs thrown around the room accompanied by an estimated $7,000 in damages. Also hiding in a locked closet of the suite was a terrified call girl, who police said had feared for her life. Sheen reportedly confessed to drinking and doing cocaine earlier in the night, though the actor’s rep would later say his client had an allergic reaction and thus was the reason for his hospitalization. Earlier in 2010 Charlie Sheen had gone to rehab for cocaine and alcohol abuse. The stint followed his arrest on Christmas when Brooke Mueller told police he held a knife to her throat and threatened to kill her.
Lindsay Lohan – 2010 was a year of trouble for this 24-year-old actress. She reported to jail on July 20th, 2010 after the court found she had violated her probation. According to TMZ, Judge Marsha Revel said there was a pattern of violations since Lindsay was placed on probation in 2007 following her plea bargain in her DUI case. Earlier in May, Lohan had missed a mandatory court date, claiming that she was stuck in France at the Cannes Film Festival after her passport went missing. Despite the excuse, the judge in her case issued a warrant for her arrest. Four days later Lilo appeared in a Beverly Hills courtroom where she was slapped with a SCRAM bracelet and ordered to undergo drug testing. Despite her strict circumstances, Lindsay even made an appearance at June’s MTV Movie Awards, where her SCRAM bracelet went off during an afterparty. The slip-up was the last straw for Judge Marsha Revel, who threw the book at Lindsay and sentenced her to 90 days in jail and another 90 in rehab.
