Christmas was coming once again. The stores on Main Street were decorated with candy canes and lights. The homes in town were glowing with Christmas decorations on the doors and windows. The children were dreaming of their Christmas presents under the tree and parents were busy shopping and baking.
All of this was very nice, but for one little girl, Christmas was just a little bit too sad. You see, this year Christmas was going to be just a little bit different for Gracie.
Just a few weeks ago, Gracie’s parents moved into a new house on a new block in a new town. Gracie even changed schools and had to make new friends. To make things better for Gracie, Gracie’s mom signed her up for Daisy Girl Scouts in this new town. Gracie was very nervous about this. Gracie didn’t know any of the girls in this new Daisy Girl Scout troop and she was worried that she wouldn’t make any new friends.
Then it happened. Gracie’s first Daisy meeting. It was the week before Christmas. Gracie was introduced to so many girls. She couldn’t remember who was who and that made Gracie very shy and uncomfortable. The Daisy Girl Scouts made Christmas Tree ornaments for their arts and craft project. She sat in the middle of two girls that were very friendly, they shared glue and glitter together. Gracie liked that but was still too shy to speak to them.
After arts and crafts the girls played Twister and listed to Christmas music. At the end of the Daisy Meeting, all of the girls and the troop leaders sat in a friendship circle. One hand over the other the girls held hands. Gracie never did this before either so she was still a bit shy.
Then it happened. It was time for each girl to speak! Each girl had to tell what their favorite part of the Daisy meeting was in the friendship circle. Gracie thought that was it. How in the world would she get the courage to speak up when she’s the new girl. The first girl started and guess what she said? She said, “Today, my favorite part was getting to meet Gracie”. Then next girl said, “My favorite part was sharing glue and glitter with Gracie”. The next girl said, “My favorite part was climbing over Gracie in Twister”. Every girl said something nice about Gracie. Gracie couldn’t believe that all of the girls liked her so much already and Gracie felt really good inside.
Gracie was the last girl to speak. She was smiling ear to ear and holding on to her new friends hands in the friendship circle. Then Gracie said, nice and loud, “My favorite part was making friends with all of you!” And with that, Gracie’s Christmas wish to make new friends came true.
