It is intriguing how some of the most original and inspiring music of today is coming from the Indie Rock scene. Solo artists and bands of varying musical genres are exploding out of the woodwork and into the mainstream. Read on for five fantastic musical acts to watch out for in 2011. Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros
Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros are a breath of fresh air. At first glance, ‘Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros’ appear to be a troupe of friends on their way to Woodstock. Upon further review, this band delivers a truly unique sound, creative songs, fresh lyrics and an energy like no other! While listening to their 2009 album “Up From Below”, I had to resist the urge to dance and sing along. Fresh and inspired tracks include “Home”, “40 Day Dream”, “Desert Song” and “Janglin'” among others. This band is also rumored to put on amazing live concert! Check out Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes; this is one band that you’ll never forget.
Another fantastic band to watch in 2011 is Marching Band. Native to Sweden, ‘Marching Band’ offers a beautiful sound, intricate harmonies, and feel good vibe. A few good examples of songs by ‘Marching Band’ include “Another Day”, “Gorgeous Behavior”, “For Your Love” and more. Marching band is definitely worth a look; you’ll be singing along in no time!
Andrew Bird is an extremely talented musical artist who is beginning to pick up speed in the music industry. Certainly not a newcomer, Andrew Bird has been active on the music scene since 2003 and has honed his gift into something quite special. Not only does Andrew Bird have an extraordinary voice, but he also plays the violin, glockenspiel, guitar, as well as acting as his own songwriter. Favorites from his album “Armchair Aprocrypha” include “Armchairs” and “Plasticities”, among others. Andrew Bird is certainly one artist that shows massive promise in 2011.
Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin
Another great band to keep your eye on in 2011 is Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin. This band offers catchy melodies chock full of guitar and drum accompaniment. Each of their songs tells a story and it won’t be long until you’re tapping your foot to their catchy tunes. Favorites from ‘Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin’ include “Oregon Girl”, “Anne Elephant”, “Glue Girls” and more. ‘Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin’ is currently on tour with the ‘Tokyo Police Club’ and ‘Two Door Cinema’.
Another remarkably original artist to watch this year is Oberhofer. Oberhofer has a fantastic sound, featuring pop synthesizers, keyboard, whistling and of course, Oberhofer himself. Oberhofer’s songs are ridiculously catchy and addictive; within minutes you will be singing along! Favorites include “AWY FRM U”, “I Could Go” and “Landline”.
Regardless of music genre, there are some very original and abundantly talented artists and groups surfacing on the Music Scene.
