How did the Hosts perform presiding over the ceremonies?
The first question is…who paired James Franco and Anne Hathaway to hosts the 83rd Academy Awards?
Wow, not only were they polar opposites in general, but their comfort levels were so far apart it was the main thing you noticed. What they were rambling on about seemed to fade into the background.
I felt bad for both of them up there; Mr. Franco was so nervous that every time he wasn’t on stage, you were wondering if he had become indisposed for the moment. Meanwhile, it looked like most of the show was on Ms. Hathaway’s shoulders. For her first time hosting, she looked extremely comfortable on the stage.
As they were standing next to each other during the event, you could find Franco having a hard time deciding where to settle his gaze! Poor fella! You could tell he was upset with himself. I have a feeling he isn’t looking forward to hearing about his hosting reviews.
Flubs and Funnies:
While Franco incurred many flubs during the awards, Hathaway only had one. She recovered from it quickly, though. She lost her words for a moment, squirmed for a millisecond and then declared “Flub!” Next, gesturing with her hands that it was time for a drink.
Hathaway performed a mini song and dance spoof on Hugh Jackman that was received rather well by the applause. Franco appeared at the tail end of the funny spoof walking out on stage wearing an evening gown! The audience had a chuckle when he joked that the weird part was he just got a text message from Charlie Sheen!
However, his spiel about being 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon away from the next two presenters didn’t earn high marks from the audience, as he exclaimed, “Look it up on the Internet.”
At the tail end of the Awards, relief was written all over Franco’s face as he finished with his last blunder, showcasing some difficulty remembering the film’s name for who just won Best Picture! Yikes!
Did the show run a smooth course?
Overall yes, but at times it did leave the viewer feeling rushed through by the hosts.
Kirk Douglas was adorably captivating as he purposely procrastinated on delivering who would win the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress.
When Billy Crystal walked out and had a funny quip to share how he always wanted to work with Bob Hope and then the first time he saw him, Mr. Hope gave him the finger!
