The 2011 All Star reserves have been revealed for the NBA All Star Game, and there are quite a few snubs. The 2011 All Star reserves include seven players from each conference, basically filling out the benches of both the Western Conference and the Eastern Conference. One week ago today, the starters for the 60th NBA All Star Game were revealed, and now we know who will be coming off the bench. Queue the debate about which players deserved to be on the team instead of the ones that were actually tapped on the shoulder by the coaches.
We already know the starters for both teams, comprising some of the best players that the NBA has to offer. The starters were voted on to the team by the fans, who submitted ballot throughout the first part of the 2010-11 season. The reserves were then voted on by the NBA coaches, who all submitted ballots based on who they felt should be making the rosters this year. The rules were that the coaches voted on All Stars from their own conferences, and they weren’t allowed to vote for players on their own team. If any player is unable to go for the game, the commissioner gets to assign a replacement.
2011 Western Conference All Star Starters
G — Kobe Bryant (Los Angeles Lakers)
G — Chris Paul (New Orleans Saints)
C — Yao Ming (Houston Rockets)
F — Kevin Durant (Oklahoma City Thunder)
F — Carmelo Anthony (Denver Nuggets)
2011 Eastern Conference All Star Starters
G — Dwyane Wade (Miami Heat)
G — Derrick Rose (Chicago Bulls)
C — Dwight Howard (Orlando Magic)
F — LeBron James (Miami Heat)
F — Amare Stoudemire (New York Knicks)
The first (and obvious) thing about the starters is that the West has Yao Ming at center, and he is out for the year with injuries. The NBA commissioner will assign a replacement player to the West team sometime in the coming days. It will be entirely up to him, so David Stern could go in any direction for that final reserve, whether it be to a veteran who has earned a spot, or someone that has put up a great 2010-11 NBA season.
