In the last several decades the issue of the health of our planet has been the fore front of many different issues of discussion. Our planet, unfortunately, is deteriorating at a rapid rate and is a cause of alarm for many. One of the main issues, is how we, as people, that live on this planet can reduce our own carbon footprint to save our planet. Therefore, here are 10 ways that you can reduce your carbon footprint.

Electricity

It is easy to leave things such as computers and stereos on when you leave your home. Well, to reduce your carbon footprint on the world simply shut them off when you leave the house or are no longer using them. Not only will this be a small step towards saving our planet it will also reduce your electric bill as well.

2. Car

Another great way to reduce your carbon footprint would be to leave the car at home as much as possible. If the destinations you need to reach is within walking distance than walk there. Also make use of public transportation for the longer trips. This will not only reduce your carbon footprint but, it will increase your overall health as well. Carpooling is another way of saving our planet if public transportation is not available in your particular area.

3. Light Bulbs

Within the last few years companies have worked to create light bulbs that are more energy efficient. Simply changing the light bulbs within your home to these more energy efficient bulbs will be a great way to reduce your carbon footprint. Not only do these help you to save energy but, they also last longer than the bulbs of yesteryear. Also these new bulbs will help you to reduce your electric bill as well.

4. Clothes

Clothes dryers are a great convenience when you need to dry your clothes fast but, it is hard on our environment. So, instead of drying your clothes all the time when you can take the time to enjoy the great outdoors by drying them outside. This will not only help you to reduce your carbon footprint your clothes will smell great too.

5. Dishwasher

Do you have a habit of running the dishwasher with only a few items inside? Well, in doing so you are contributing to the poor health of our planet. Instead, wait till the dishwasher is full then run it. This will not only reduce your carbon foot print but also reduce your water and electric bill as well.

6. Paper

Each and every year over 500 football fields of trees are cleared to create various paper products for the home. That is alot of trees and alot of damage to our planet. Instead, when possible use recycled paper products instead. These products not only save our trees but, are less expensive to make.

7. Garden

Another great way to reduce your carbon foot print and save money on groceries is to grow your own fruits and vegetables in a garden. This will save you on the inflated prices at the store and is alot more healthier for you as well. If you live in an area where a garden is not possible than consider container gardening.

8, Share

Instead of having several different movies and shows playing throughout the house each night share one TV. Pick a program that the whole family agrees on and turn it into a family night complete with popcorn. This will not only save our planet but, also your electrical bill as well.

9.Locally grown

Stop and think about how many miles groceries travel in trucks to get to your local store. This puts pollution into the environment and causes undue damage. Therefore, instead why not buy locally grown fruits and vegetables. This will help put money back into your community and help your area farmers as well.

10. Knowledge

Finally, share your knowledge to others about how they can reduce their own carbon footprint on our environment. The more people that know about ways to protect our planet the better our planet will be.

There are a variety of different ways that you can reduce your carbon footprint on our world. Trying these simple steps will put you well on your way.
